Special Meeting: Fall 2020 Food System Tour

Learn how the Council is working toward a stronger food system in Douglas County and their mission to advise you and collaborate on food system-related policy opportunities or barriers. Through live interviews and video conversations with stakeholders across the County, we will explore a range of food system sectors—including agriculture, economic development, food security, and food waste reduction and diversion—and seek to demonstrate assets, innovations, and gaps in achieving the potential of our food system and in the implementation of the Douglas County Food System Plan.

Created through an inclusive community engagement process, and formally adopted in 2017 by the City of Lawrence and Douglas County Commissions, the Food System Plan lays out goals and strategies for a resilient, thriving, and equitable food system in Douglas County. The Plan not only guides the work of the Council, it provides a framework that stakeholders throughout the community have invested in and built upon. Together we will visit examples of both as well as outstanding opportunities to strengthen the food system of Douglas County.
