Jury convicts 24-year-old man of interference with law enforcement

Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez announced that a jury Wednesday found Alberto Kitts, 24, guilty of interference with law enforcement, a misdemeanor conviction.

“I want to thank the jury members for their time and commitment to ensuring justice,” District Attorney Valdez said.

Charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on February 4, 2024, when police were called to the area near 10th and Kentucky streets in reference to an altercation between Kitts and a man parking his car. When later located by police, Kitts ran away into a downtown business where Kitts was arrested.

Assistant District Attorney Lisa Montgomery represented the State of Kansas. The matter was investigated by the Lawrence, Kansas Police Department. The defendant was represented by local attorney Brenda McClary.

Sentencing was set by Judge James McCabria for 1:30 p.m. on September 3, 2024, at the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center. Kitts faces up to one year in the county jail for interference with law enforcement.
